Going Solo Leeds Cancelled Replaced With “SoloCamp”

August 27th, 2008 by Dominic Hodgson

Going Solo Leeds has been cancelled I’m afraid to say, the reason being “lack of definate attendees” such late in the game.

Two weeks and a half before the event, just over 25 people are registered to be present at the event. Even though Going Solo aims to be an intimate event, I don’t consider it is fair towards the attendees, sponsors and speakers to run it with such a thin crowd.

There were 60 people in Lausanne, which made for a good audience. A conference with 25 people present is not the event I designed and advertised — and not what people paid for.

I have to say that In my opinion the price was just too high, £150 - £350 for a ticket, I think with the venue (Leeds Met) and the current student climate changing the pricing structure a little would have been less profitable but had a much bigger attendance… It’s a real shame however

SoloCamp is the replacement which I guess is a freelance / Barcamp mashup

so I guess we have our first entry into the northhub news deadpool :(

Photocamp Comes To Leeds

July 17th, 2008 by Dominic Hodgson

PhotoCamp Leeds will be the UK’s Europe’s first ‘unconference‘ dedicated to photography and imagemaking. Based on the principles of BarCamp; an event where the people that attend create the programme of sessions themselves. These events are open, participatory, democratic, ‘workshop’ events; the organisers and sponsors simply provide a venue, facilities, beverages and food! The attendees provide the content - and the buzz

Sounds good doesn’t it, the bad news is that I missed the tickets, they “sold out” within about 5 day’s,  the event will be held at the same place as its sister event Barcamp Leeds 2 Old Broadcasting House and will be on the 6th of September 2008.

Barcamp Leeds 2 - This Time It’s Two Days!

July 13th, 2008 by Dominic Hodgson

Word is leaking out that Barcamp Leeds 2 has a date or two, that’s right it’s two days this year… the 16th+17th of August 2008 wowee

This year promises to be just as fun as last year with talk of hardware hacking, I am unsure whether I will be able to make it due to the fact I need a holiday and we’d planned to go that week but I’ll see what happens
